Both Mate and Coffee Have Their Unique Benefits. Which One Is Better?
- What is Mate?
Mate is a deeply traditional beverage in South America, especially in countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil. It is made from the dried leaves of the yerba mate plant.
- What is Coffee?
Coffee, on the other hand, comes from the roasted and ground beans of the Coffea plant. Originally from Ethiopia, coffee has become one of the most popular beverages in the world.
- Caffeine Content
- Mate: The caffeine concentration in mate ranges from 300 to 400 micrograms per liter.
- Coffee: This is lower than the caffeine concentration in coffee, which is 600 micrograms per liter.
Stimulant Properties
- Coffee: Coffee gives you the energy boost you need, but it can sometimes be a bit intense and short-lived. You’ll feel the peak of energy 20-30 minutes after drinking it, but you may experience an energy crash afterward. It’s like a roller coaster: you go up fast and come down quickly too.
- Mate: Mate, on the other hand, offers a more stable and lasting stimulation. In addition to caffeine, it contains theobromine and theophylline, which help you relax and improve circulation. So, not only do you feel more awake, but also calmer. The energy from mate fades more gradually, avoiding sudden drops.
